4.7 million Americans served in World War I.

2 million were sent to Europe with the American Expeditionary Force.

Over 80,000 lost their lives overseas, from combat, accidents, or illness.  Many died even after the Armistice ended the war on November 11, 1918.

The fallen were buried in military cemeteries, civilian graveyards, and group and individual burial plots scattered throughout the war zone.
